Hope

Hope is the one thing we are all in dire need of. At this time I can think of a great number of people needing it. The one who has just been informed that the tumour in their body cannot be removed without the risk of another problem occurring. The woman who has a brain tumour and has been told it is inoperable because of its location. The family who has small children and the relationship is so fragmented that both parents feel tired of fighting, hope seems illusive.

Without a doubt as you are reading this you can easily think of some area in your life which you need hope. It may seem completely illusive to you and yet you hope against hope that the situation will change.

The next generation of young people are faced with many challenges not unlike the ones we faced growing up but different and yes in some ways harder. While the moral consciousness of right and wrong was easy to speak to, today lines are so blurred, someone even wrote a song about the fog. Hope can seem almost illusive and YET God is our hope, our only hope. God alone knows everything and is the only One who can make sanity out of the madness we face as we reflect on that terrible Tuesday on September 11, 13 years ago when thousands died in one day a mere few hours away from here.

That said, I still believe our youth can achieve greatness and influence their generation for the good. As they intently set their hearts and lives to serve. I believe there are cures that can be found for cancer, Alzheimer’s and autism. I believe my children and yours will make a difference to their generation. This is the only generation where a huge percentage have never donned the doors of a church and express no faith in any form of religious belief, especially Christian.

As our youth are bussed down, carpooled and escorted to the Festival of Hope this coming weekend, come with them. The Festival of Hope is just that, a three night event inviting people from all walks of life to gather and give hope to this generation. This is a co-operative event of many denominations coming together with the focus on sharing hope through song and speaking at the Air Canada Centre, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening in cooperation with Franklin Graham and the Billy Graham association to encourage and exhort. Millions will be shared hope.

I do hope (no pun intended) you will come down if it is even one evening and bring someone. Speak hope for it is alive and well. Despite what you see in the natural keep looking forward. Keep looking up. Believe – for there is HOPE!
