How We Cope with Worry and Transition

~Matthew 6: 22~

TRANSITION.  That is the word that comes to mind this time of year.  Transition has become a concept that I have had to embrace more regularly than I did in my younger years.  Who isn’t going through a “change” or transition?  My body, family, job, church – you name it and I can tell you about some aspect of transition being experienced.  For many of us change brings with it an aspect of fear.  I can tell you that fear looks at me and I have to make a decision on how I am going to respond.  Sometimes I have let fear hang out for awhile in my thoughts and my heart but I am getting better at saying “not today – get out of here” and facing my reality and boldly taking on each challenge.

There is so much buzz in the media about people transforming themselves.  A lot of talk about what our “image” is because we are all caught up on how others see us.  Most of these transformations have to do with one’s physical shape, eyelashes, or hair.  It is amazing how the cloth we put on on the outside is “read” by other humans to decide whether we fit their group.  The image we present determines whether they can work with us or use us to further extend their goals.  Transformation on the outside is good…to a certain extent.

Don’t get me wrong.  I like nice clothes.  However, I am reminded what Jesus said, how worrying about what we will eat or drink  doesn’t add one more thing to our lives (paraphrase).  Jesus, the Son of God tells us that flowers, one of His most beautiful creations, they do not toil about how they look.  The apostle, Paul, said the way we are changed is through our minds.  We are transformed, when our minds are changed.  Our minds can be changed and made new through the Word of God.  Character is an inward aspect but it is developed and changed by what we think upon.

“We are transformed, when our minds are changed.”

So this lends the question: what are you thinking on.  What influences your thought process?  Transition is something we have to face quicker these days.  Usually we are given warning that the price will change on something in a giving number of days.  Don’t expect that too much anymore my friend.  One Friday people were going and coming from a very popular big box store.  Families were planning to go shopping there the next day.  Saturday morning those same families showed up to a locked, closed, “bankruptcy” sign on that door.  People were vacationing in Nepal and going about their daily lives when everything suddenly changed.  The death toll of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit that country.  Climbers on the infamous Mt. Everest were shaken off at the tumult of that same quake.  Change.  Transition.

I am purposing to make every day count, starting today!  How will you purpose to make today count?  I welcome your thoughts at: info@patrussellonline.com or Twitter: @patrussellsings
