Our God Who Never Sleeps

I had the privilege of attending a prayer breakfast earlier this month where about 400 people took time out to gather to pray and to encourage each other to pray.

There was one person in particular who stood out to me.  She was a mother who lost not one, but two of her daughters who were violently killed a few years ago.  Both girls had promising futures ahead of them. They were bright, intelligent and inspiring.  Although I had never met these young women or their mother, there was a thought that struck me.  I too am a mother.

How would I go on if my two children were viciously taken from me with no warning, no reason, no question asked.  One response resounded continually in my heart: prayer.  Not just a “now I lay me down to sleep” prayer. Rather a crying out intercessory prayer.  Not empty words going into space but to a God who created me, loves me and is concerned about everything that relates to me.  His name is Jehovah.  Yes the One who created the heavens and the earth and every human being.  The same One who allows 30 cm of snow to fall and blow on our city, and then tells the sun to smile on the white-laced landscape the next day.  He is the one I would cry out to!

I need you to know the specs on the God I pray to because it has become increasingly popular to pray these days.  Yet regardless of how politically incorrect it may be to say it is not the same ‘person’ that everyone prays to.  I want to know the God I am praying to is a results-oriented One! Don’t you?!  I want to know that He is alive, He indeed hears and He definitely understands.  That is who I pray to – what about you?

“Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”  Psalms 121:4

Blessings!
